Winery Update - Le Garage Newsletter 2.3.23

Dear Wine Friends,

It’s been a week of ups and downs in the heart of Le Garage Winery.  My battle with “What the hell was I thinking” is finally fading now as an interesting visitor to the winery made my day!  I also had a visit from the PA Department of Agriculture who blessed the winery for another year.   

The Interesting Visitor

Monday, early evening, I was fortunate enough to be visited by a neighbor and friend who is educated in wine and the wine industry. I am so very lucky to have met him and even luckier that he likes my wines!  His abilities to find and describe discrete flavor characteristics in wine amazes me. 

We tasted wines in the barrel, and we tasted some of my bottled wines.  I learned that some of my wines, while being great for those who want to drink it now, are wines for collectors - my 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon being one them.

With his help we determined the next wine to bottle is a 2020 Primitivo-Cabernet Sauvignon blend. This wine spent at least a year on Hungarian Oak before it was moved to an American Oak barrel.  This wine is ready to drink now - or as soon as I get it in the bottle.

Serendipity has a Brother!

He is hiding in the shadows of midnight, cloaked in black cashmere.  He is young, but dark and mysterious for his age.  Like his sister, he carries fruit all the way to the finish but along with him comes more pepper, darker color, and a bolder dark fruit profile. 

Ideal for a collector or a want-a-glass-now consumer, he will be moved from the barrel to the bottle for aging later this year.  He will remain unnamed until the second racking so that we are assured he is not a marauder of senses.

Vinophile – a wine friend or a wine enthusiast

Oenophile – a wine connoisseur 

Sommelier – a wine steward

Wino - a person who drinks excessive amounts of cheap wine. (This is not us; we drink good wine!)
